California Steeplejack specializes in climbing flagpoles to service your needs but we do climb any structure that may need some kind of unreachable service. We use ropes and climbing gear to ascend up to get to where we need to be to make repairs.  Since 1976 we have been servicing church steeples, (which is where the term “Steeplejack” comes from) flagpoles, towers, light standards and other vertical structures.  You are most likely visiting this site because your rope broke, your flag is stuck at the top, your flagpole is rusty and weathered, your flag clips are broke, the revolving truck at the top will not turn anymore, the gold ball fell off or you have a pole that has not been used for years and want to recondition it so its as “good as new”.  You came to the right place.  For 40 years we have been known for our integrity, professionalism, expertise, the quality of our work and our fair pricing.  If you want, before you call, please take a look at the information in the links above to get informed about the different aspects of a flagpole. You can use this information so that you can possibly identify another problem other than the main one you originally went to search for.  If something else is possibly wrong it would be cost effective to get that taken care of as well now, than for us or any other servicing company you may end up choosing to do it again in the near future.

Avoid the time and expense of renting a lift or building scaffolding for some small repair!  Need to replace some roof shingles on a very steep roof? No problem.  Have an obstruction light that needs replaced? No problem.  No height is too tall, as long as the structure is safe to climb!  Even if your flagpole is on the roof or the side of a building, our gear is small and compact enough to carry upstairs (or in elevators) and onto the rooftop to repair your pole.  Our climbers are also certified by COMTRAIN (the industry standard) in tower climbing, safety and rescue.

Flagpole Repair, Painting, Maintenance & Rope Replacement

Flagpoles are a piece of equipment and need to get serviced in order for them to operate as desired for an extended period of time.  Unfortunately since its usually a long time before something does break people tend to forget that they do need some kind of maintenance every 4-5 years. If you have any questions before or after you look over the information on our web site please feel free to call and ask any questions you like.  There are some variables like rope types you may want to learn about, also what types of pole need paint and which ones you don’t need to paint unless your looking for a specific look.  Color of the paint as well, for instance the flagpole at Disneyland is a high gloss white and that goes with the look of main street yet the Mission Viejo Water District HQ has a Green pole that goes with the color scheme of the building.  We can talk about the problems you may be having and figure what your solution will be.   If its as easy as you just need a new rope then we will give you a price to replace your rope and its as easy as that.  If your pole is short enough and can be easily accessed by a small inexpensive lift then that might be the way to go if you have a competent person to do the work. We will advise that if that is what is best for you and your pockets.   Call us as soon as you are ready to chat.

Definitions of terms in the Flagpole industry.

  • Steeplejack is a skilled tradesman that climbs and maintains vertical structures. (see Wiki link)
  • Halyard is another name for the rope that holds the flag.
  • Revolving Truck or just Truck is the device at the top of the flagpole that holds the pulley to raise and lower a flag.  Most trucks should swivel with the wind to prevent fouling of the flag.  We have a whole page dedicated to the various types of trucks and their operation.
  • Internal Halyard Flagpole is a type of flagpole that has a rope or a cable the runs inside the pole instead of outside the flagpole. This type is used mostly for security reasons and aesthetics to eliminate a rope running up and down the pole.
  • Lockbox is a box with some locking mechanism where you tie the rope up to the cleat.  The box when locked prevents anyone without the key to bring down the flag without authorization.
  • Flag Snaps are the snaps or clips that are attached to the rope or cable that secure the flag to the rope or cable.
